What a unit stills photographer does all day
Callum has been on set for 22 productions. Here is a normal day, from call time to the last frame.
Call time is usually 7:30. The stills photographer arrives with the camera crew and stays until wrap, because the best frames happen when nobody is performing for a camera.
Rehearsals are where the poster is
During rehearsals the actors are relaxed and the light is already set. Most of our key art starts as a rehearsal frame.
Callum shoots silently, stays out of eyelines and checks with the first AD before every setup. The job is half photography and half knowing when to disappear.
The end of the day
Selects go to the lightbox the same evening. We circle picks with a grease pencil, cross out the rest and send ten frames to the client before morning.
